How We Recommend Using Worm Castings

Vegetables and Annuals:

Place 1 to 2 inches of worm castings in planting holes and seed furrows. Set plants or seeds, cover with soil, and lightly water. Side dress during the growing season with a ½ cup of worm castings per plant or 1 cup of castings per linear foot for each row every two months.

Perennials:

Work a ½ cup or 1” of worm castings above the root zone and cover lightly with dirt, mulch, or water. Apply in spring, early summer, and again in the early fall.

Planting Seeds/Transplanting Potted Plants:

Use 1 part worm castings to 2 parts soil.

Established Potted Plants/Hanging Baskets:

Use 1 part worm castings to 2 parts soil.

Established Roses:

Mix 4 cups of worm castings 2 to 3 inches below the surface for each plant once a year.

New or Freshly Transplanted Roses, Trees, Shrubs, or Berries:

Mix 1 part worm castings to 3 parts soil. Surround a newly dug hole as well as drape roots over a mound of the mixture. Cover and water thoroughly.

New Lawn Seed:

Apply at the rate of 10 pounds per 100 square feet. Work into the top of the soil-plant seeds and then water.

Established Lawns:

Apply at the rate of 10 pounds per 100 square feet in the spring and again in the fall.

Herb Gardens:

Do not use full-strength castings on herb plants. Instead, use 5% to 10% castings mixed with peat moss. Feed plants throughout the growing season using the same mixture.

Established Fruit and Nut Trees:

Apply 2 cups of castings as a top dress per every inch of tree diameter.
